Follow the patterns, explore through touch

Bring hands-on discovery to pre-writing play with the GOOD WOOD Fine Motor Wooden Tracing Board Set. Three double-sided boards offer six engraved patterns to explore with a fingertip, the included wooden stylus or the brush.

Set out a board for a quiet activity together. Follow the grooves, notice each change of direction and enjoy tracing a pattern from beginning to end, without the pressure of putting pencil to paper.

Fine motor practice through tactile play

Tracing the engraved patterns gives children opportunities to practise controlled hand and finger movements, hand-eye coordination and following a visual path. Explore the grooves by touch first, then introduce the stylus or brush as confidence grows.

Use the activities to introduce left-to-right movement and the kinds of lines and shapes children encounter in early writing.

Choose Toddler or Junior patterns

• Toddler: simpler patterns designed for children aged 3–4 years.
• Junior: more challenging patterns designed for children aged 4 years and over.

Choose the version that suits the child's current abilities and interests, and let them explore at their own pace.

More ways to explore

Follow a groove with the brush, describe the route aloud or press play dough into the engraved shapes to explore their form in a different way. These open-ended activities combine touch, movement and creativity.
